NORMA JEAN CLIZER

Norma Jean Clizer, 95, went to be with her Lord, peacefully in her sleep on

Tuesday, May 14, 2024. She was born October 11, 1928, the only child of John J. and Emma M. (Hoshor) Scowden, Savannah, MO. On June 29th, 1950, after both graduated from the University of Missouri, Norma married Herbert E. Clizer, her Savannah High School sweetheart. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and daughter, Denise Kay Clizer Kopp, and son, Gregg Norman Clizer. She is survived by her son; Kevin Clizer, (Suzanne), Weston; and daughter, Linda Sloat, (James), Urbana, IL. Surviving grandchildren include Emily Kopp (Tom Farrell), Ben Kopp (Susan), John, David, and James Clizer, Lindsey Clizer and great-grandsons, Archer and Wesley Farrell. Her daughter-in-law Suzanne (Dee) Clizer, Gregg’s wife, and her son-in law, Kelvin Kopp, Denise’s husband, also survive. Norma joined the Savannah United Methodist Church in childhood and served in all areas, especially as a Sunday school teacher and historian. She was also active in the Hackberry 4-H Club and was a 75 year member of Chapter EJ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. For 25 years she enjoyed substituting in the Savannah RIII School District. Norma loved to travel and was always making plans for the next trip she and Herb would take. On their own they visited Europe, all 50 states, and much of Canada. In later years they looked forward to spending February in Arizona. Norma’s B.A. degree from M.U. was in English Literature and reflected her lifelong love of reading. She will be remembered as a very loving and proud parent, grandparent, and great grandparent. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Savannah United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 26th. The visitation is from 3 to 4 p.m. The memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. followed by a burial at Savannah Cemetery and a meal served at the Savannah United Methodist Church.
