1930-2024
Bernard “Bud” O. Winger, 93, of St. Joseph passed away Friday, August 23, 2024, at his home in St. Joseph.
He was born in Bedford, Iowa, on September 10, 1930, to Ronald Winger and Mildred (Bird) Winger-Neller and graduated from Central High School. He married Marjory Moxley on April 22, 1952, in Atchison, Kansas, and she preceded him in death on May 9, 1980. Bud married Martha Stanton on November 9, 1991, and preceded him in death on October 13, 2019.
Bernard was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, retired from Armour & Co.in 1981 after 32 years of employment and owned a cattle farm for 36 years until he moved to Savannah. Bud served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and fought in the Korean War with the 5th Regimental Combat Team, earning a rank of Sergeant and two Purple Hearts.
Survivors include his children, David (Cindy) Winger of St. Joseph, Marilyn Winger of Shawnee, Kanssas, Galen (Carolyn) Winger of Dekalb, and Linda (Tom) Wolken of Shawnee, Kansas; grandchildren, Kristopher Winger, Ryan (Alxia) Winger, Bryn (Madison) Winger, Jarred (Samantha Goetting) Wolken, and Brady Wolken.
Daughter by marriage, Joann (Meredith) Kapp of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Brent (Marilyn) Kapp, Denise (John) Meyer, Chad (Shanna) Kapp; sisters, Darlene Orr of Branson, Missouri and Ruth Howard of Texas; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his two wives; brother, Dwight Neller; and daughter-in-law, Virginia Winger.
Visitation and family receiving hour will be 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home, Savannah, Missouri. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Savannah Cemetery, Savannah, Missouri.
