Savages take fourth at state, Burnsides high school career ends

In a thrilling display of grit and determination, the Savannah Savage wrestling team clinched an impressive fourth place at the MSHSAA Boys Class 2 State Championship, proving their mettle on the mat. With only seven wrestlers representing the team, Savannah showcased exceptional talent and teamwork, with six of the seven savage wrestlers earning medals and two making it to the finals.

Trailer court discussed, street paving proposal given go ahead

A former Savannah councilman was at the March 3 City Council meeting with another ardent pitch: This time he was asking that the city do something to take care of what he claims are serious problems with the trailer park located at 7th and West Nelson streets on the city’s southwest.The most recent name of the park was Casa Bella. It is a three-parcel mobile home community consisting of 31 lots, according to the post advertising real estate for sale.Gabler suggested that issues there are “the can that has been kicked down the street since I was on Council 10 years ago.

Seed Library at the Downtown and East Hills Libraries

Spring is on the horizon which means the St. Joseph Public Library Seed Library is open at the Downtown and East Hills libraries.They have a variety of vegetables, herbs and flowers including beans, corn, cucumber, lettuce, melon, peas, pepper, radish, squash and tomato seed.Anyone interested in seeds can select up to 10 seed packets, no more than two of one kind, during the regular library hours, Monday through Thursday 9 a.m.

Mark calendars for Knights of Columbus fish fry's

The Knights of Columbus in Savannah are sponsoring two fish fry's; one in March 21 and the other on April 4."We are doing this to raise money for local charities," said Leonard Untiedt, the Knights of Columbus financial secretary.These fundraisers have successfully donated to Catholic Charities, the Andrew County Senior Center, the Andrew County Food Pantry, and Backpack Buddies in the past.The two fish fry's are part of four dinner events that the Knights of Columbus hold throughout the year. The other two are two tenderloin dinners in the fall."The last two we used to support the church or to support seminarians who are studying for the priesthood or different ministry," said Untiedt.The Knights have been holding these fish fry's for four years."Once we have the funds, we will pick a charity in Savannah or maybe a Catholic charity in St.

FFA gearing up for busy season

The 2025 Savannah FFA Chapter is gearing up for an extremely busy next couple of months.Career Development Events (CDEs) are set to kick off next week, Friday, March 7, as the chapter heads to Brunswick for its first competition of the year. It is a demanding journey requiring relentless practice both in school and outside of class.At the end of March, the chapter is going to send off its Soybean Innovation Team to Jefferson City.

FBLA sees great success at districts; five students advance to state

The Savannah High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) came out with a bang during districts. There were 18 students who qualified for districts, five of which made it to state.Savannah is proud to have such success and hope this group can continue that success at state.Junior Brayden Alley Placed in all three of his events, bringing home two first place medals in Securities and Investments and Economics and a third place medal in Public Policy and Advocacy.
