Swim team leaves state ready for next year
The Savannah High School swim team proved that despite modest team-size of 11 swimmers, that they were not to be underestimated.Coach Tammy Kime took six girls to state over the course of last weekend."Which was pretty amazing because their are teams with 15 or 20 girls who qualified for state," said Kime.Savage swimmers went to St. Peter's with three relays and three individual events which Kime called a massive success for their season.While Savannah swim's small size puts them at a disadvantage, especially without a steady practice pool and sometimes late practices of varying length, what Kime calls "gusto" kept the team's competing spirit alive."We've driven all over to get to practices," said Kime.

The highlight of a 30-minute Savannah City Council Meeting on Feb. 18 was the swearing in of Zack Long as the new police chief.Long, 46, had been the unanimous choice of the Savannah City Council, with the vote coming after closed session at its Feb.
Savage dance team dances their way to the top at state
Savannah High School (SHS) is proud to be home to some of the best spirit squads in the state.Between Friday night lights to appearances in the community to cold basketball games in the winter, SHS spirit teams never fail to impress. However they do not stop there.The Savannah High School dance and cheer teams put in countless morning practices and long evenings to be able to not only just perform, but to compete against the best of the best around the state of Missouri and to show their endless amounts of competitive talents.In the fall, the SHS cheer team took to the competitive floor and competed at the MCCA Regionals and State Competition and took home two silver finishes.
SHS Fine Arts preparing to have work on display
Art Club has a couple of events coming up in early March.First, the MEC Districts Fine Arts Festival takes place Saturday, March 1, at Chillicothe High School. The art show begins at 5 p.m., followed by the choir concert at 5:30 p.m.
Timing, flexibility key to grazing tall fescue spring flush
Proper management of the spring flush of tall fescue gives pastures and cattle a head start for the rest of the grazing season, said University of Missouri Extension state forage specialist Harley Naumann.Spring flush occurs when conditions are right for cool-season grasses to come out of their dormant state. This happens when soils warm to 55-65 degrees Fahrenheit, typically late April to early May in northern Missouri.
Bridge rebuilds moving forward
