The Savannah Missouri Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual banquet on Jan. 24 at the Clasbey Center.This event was coordinated and executed by Katie Graham Director and board members Kodi Moore, Angie Ziolcowski and Brad Jarvis.Four awards were presented this year.Andrew County Sheriff Grant Gillett was presented as Bureaucrat of the Year for his demonstration of exceptional dedication, efficiency, and effectiveness in his role.

Savannah students witness inauguration

A remarkable opportunity was taken by Savannah High School (SHS) students on Jan. 20 when they were physically present for the second inauguration of President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C.This trip was open to all students and parents and was attended by five adults and 16 students.According to SHS teacher Melissa Ross, the trip was first offered two years ago and had to be paid for before the election because the point was to witness an historical event and not support a particular candidate."Some students were liberal and some were conservative but they all got along very well," said Ross.

Savannah trash rates to rise at least 56 cents a month

A handful of matters were covered at the Jan. 21 Savannah City Council meeting, including a likely forthcoming rate increase for monthly residential trash pickup and approval of an $8,000 contribution to the Savannah Chamber of Commerce.Teresa Peterson from Redgate Disposal of Edgerton, Missouri, told the Council that they would need to get an additional 56 cents per resident as a result of increased fees at the St.

New senior service organization on the horizon

After a 50-year partnership, Andrew County Ministries (ACM) and Retired and Senior Volunteers Program (RSVP) have separated. A new organization to provide services to seniors, which RSVP performed, is in the process of being formed.At a regularly scheduled meeting of Andrew County Ministries on July 16, 2024, the ACM Board voted not to reapply for another AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP grant after the current grant expires on March 31, 2025.During her speech at a volunteer appreciation dinner, ACM president Jennifer Hegeman announced that reapplication for the grant would not take place.
