An ordinance dealing with cargo shipping containers in residential areas was given first reading at the Country Club Village Board meeting on Jan. 14.Board Member Patti Long said the ordinance has been “hashed out” for a long time.Village Clerk Andrew Dilfer said he believed there are fewer than a dozen cargo containers in the Village.Board Chairman Joshua Weaver said that if the Village plans to force residents to get rid of them, “we’d better get rid of all of them.”In a related action, the board decided to do the first and second readings of most ordinances at separate meetings, instead of doing the readings one right behind another at the same meeting.The readings may be one after the other if there is a sense of urgency about the action.Board Member Ashley Albers made a motion to have the readings at separate meetings, except for emergencies, and Board Member Tammy O’Meara Chambers seconded the motion, which was approved 5-0.Long said the Planning and Zoning Committee, at its meeting just before the Board meeting, continued to work on the fee structure for permits.Long also said that the board needs to take a look at the ordinances for the Village to ask property owners to clean up their property.“There are many antiquated steps for getting that done,” she said.The new fee structure will include building permits and licenses.
A county budget for 2025 was on the minds of Andrew County office holders on Jan. 16.By 9 a.m., the County Collector Phil Rogers, Sheriff Grant Gillett, Road and Bridge Supervisor Jim Galbraith, Assessor Paul Garrison, Circuit Clerk Tannah Buhman, County Recorder Chandler Williams, Emergency Management Director Steve Smith, Treasurer Cindy Esely and County Clerk Sarah Miller joined the three commissioners for a public budget hearing.Miller said that in 2024 the county received $22.4 million in revenues from taxes, state refunds, federal assistance, grants and other sources.
