County Commission considering Ford Farm improvements

Two commissioners were holding a work session on Monday, Dec. 30 and looking at their options to fund some improvements at the Ford Farm for Andrew County youth."The farm has always been a place for the kids, but they are limited on what they can do," said presiding Commissioner Brad Jarvis.Currently youth groups can visit Ford Farm to hike, fish, camp out or watch the wildlife, especially birds."We do want to better serve the young people of Andrew County," said Gary Baumann, the Western District commissioner. The Ford Farm Trust specifically says it's to be used for recreational and educational purposes for the youth of Andrew County. Some groups have come and talked to the commissioners about adding a BB shooting range, a trap shooting range, and a 3-D archery range. It would involve creating a road, parking and a new trail as well as the possibility of adding a shelter, Baumann said. The county has received cost estimates and may use some of the remaining American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars to jump start one or two of those projects. The other good news is that several groups supporting the additions out at Ford Fund have some funds, Jarvis said.Nothing is concrete yet but the commission is getting close to making a decision..
