Savannah blesses Safe Haven Baby Box

Community leaders and citizens gathered on March 20 to bless the newly installed Safe Haven Baby Box. The ceremony was held at the Savannah Rural Fire Department, at 107 Business US-71, where the baby box is located.Savannah’s baby box is the sixth in Missouri and the 325th in the nation.In his opening remarks, Fire Chief David Vincent said that first responders don’t always like change.

State Senator and Ninth District State Representative hold public meeting in Savannah

Hershley case will go to trial in August

A 2018 criminal case against a former Andrew County resident, who is currently in prison on a 75-year sentence in another case, will be tried during a three-day jury trial in August.Circuit Judge Dan Kellogg didn't hesitate when he set the case against Nathan Clark Hershley for trial.Hershley currently faces four felony counts, including three counts of statutory sodomy in the fist degree and a fourth count of statutory rape.Hershley was originally charged by Steven Stevenson in 2018 with two counts of statutory sodomy.Andrew County Prosecutor Monica Morrey added the additional two felony charges in May 2024.Associate Circuit Judge Chad Gaddie heard the case last year in May and found probable cause on all four felony counts. In December 2023 Morrey filed a motion for a change of judge and the case was transferred in May 2024 to Circuit Judge Patrick Robb.

VanSchoiack visits county commission

For the week of March 17, the Andrew County Commission had a busy Monday morning.The commission wanted to remind Andrew County residents that the annual Dust Form must be completed, signed and brought to the Andrew County Clerk's office by the end of work on March 31. The form is available in the County Clerk's office on the first floor of the Andrew County Courthouse.

Council hears cemetery proposal

A variety of topics were discussed at the March 17 city council meeting.During public testimony, two residents brought up issues discussed at the March 3 meeting.Ralph Stanton spoke about the trailer park located at South 7th St. He voiced concerns about zoning as well as dangerous and unsightly conditions.Councilman Keven Schneider answered Stanton by stating “The council wants to find a solution.
