HB489 changes the law on animal confiscation and allows an innocent owner of an animal that has been confiscated under the law for abuse or neglect to get their animal back without having to pay exorbitant boarding and veterinary fees. The House Committee Substitute for this bill is on the House Calendar for Perfection.HB493 removes the requirement that consignment auctions of used tangible personal property have to collect sales or use tax.

Hershley case will go to trial in August

A 2018 criminal case against a former Andrew County resident, who is currently in prison on a 75-year sentence in another case, will be tried during a three-day jury trial in August.Circuit Judge Dan Kellogg didn't hesitate when he set the case against Nathan Clark Hershley for trial.Hershley currently faces four felony counts, including three counts of statutory sodomy in the fist degree and a fourth count of statutory rape.Hershley was originally charged by Steven Stevenson in 2018 with two counts of statutory sodomy.Andrew County Prosecutor Monica Morrey added the additional two felony charges in May 2024.Associate Circuit Judge Chad Gaddie heard the case last year in May and found probable cause on all four felony counts. In December 2023 Morrey filed a motion for a change of judge and the case was transferred in May 2024 to Circuit Judge Patrick Robb.
