The Savannah Rural Fire Department recently found itself losing the services of a dear friend who has served on the board of directors as the secretary and treasurer for 45 years. Roxanne Schweizer and served on the board since she first accepted the position back in 1980.
Savannah High School's Band and Music Departments attended the Missouri State Solo/Ensemble Music Contest, which was held on Friday, May 2, in Columbia, MO, on the campus of The University of Missouri. Six students from SHS advanced from the District-level performances that happened on March 16.
Savannah Police Chief Zach Long is concerned for local citizens as scam artists are sweeping through Andrew County trying to bilk residents. On May 5, the scam involved telling a victim they were the winner of a Publisher's Clearing House sweepstake.
Civil cases take up a lot of court time.In 2024 attorneys filed 728 civil cases. Some 496 of those cases were collections related, small claims, landlord tenant, breach of contract and other civil matters.This year, some 228 cases from 2024 are still pending.
The Savannah Savages bounced back from their two losses last week to win three-straight. The Savages won their final two games of the Pony Express Tournament and a Monday evening win over East Buchanan to bring their record to 14-8.“I thought we played well last week, the 10-0 score vs Park Hill looked bad but we really played pretty good,” Savannah coach Erich Bodenhausen said.
On going construction at Rosecrans Memorial Airport has resulted in the completion of a new administration building immediately north of the old tower and administration building. The B&B Runway Cafe has moved into the new administrative building.
North Central Missouri College sent three teams to compete in the Robotics Automation Technology contest for the Missouri SkillsUSA State Competition on April 11.The contest was held at State Tech Community College in Lynn, Mo."The teams placed first, second, and third," said Rick Sharp, Industrial Technology Instructor and Coordinator. "The students were outstanding and they worked very hard."Students were asked to create a small factory robotic process that sorted materials of metal and plastic, good parts and bad parts, by palletizing the metal and plastic parts.The robot would move the parts through the process to test the parts for its drilled holes.The teams had approximately two hours to complete the process and move to the PLC Programmable Logic Controller Station where they would program PLC and be judged on time of process and efficiency.The winners will be moving on to the national competition in Georgia..
Members of the Savannah High School Cheerleading Squad national champions spoke to the members of the Andrew County Unit of Retired Teachers and Public School Employees on April 11. The team members talked about their trip to the national competition in Las Vegas and the hard work and efforts to achieve the national championship.The cheer squad attending were: Hallie Helfery, junior; Addison Emmendorfer, junior; Jaiden Myers, senior; and Tallyn Flores, junior.The next meeting of the Andrew County Unit of Retired Teachers and Public School Employees will be May 9.
The National Honor Society has had a big week to add to their already successful year.Officers tapped new inductees Thursday morning during first hour. During the spring pep assembly, all new members and current members stood up and were recognized for all their hard work.
