Savages leave it all on the mat; sending 7 to State

Wrestling did great at districts and are sending seven people to state.They finished third in the team race, right behind Cameron and Odessa.There was a rollercoaster of emotions the whole tournament.At the end of the tournament, Savannah had three district champions: sophomore Kaiden Phillips at 165 lbs, junior Braylon Ellis at 190 lbs, and senior Cooper Burnsides at 215 lbs.Joining those three are four more qualifiers: sophomore Landon Smith at 106 lbs, sophomore Lawson Francis at 126 lbs, senior Creighton Cook at 132 lbs, and junior Deagen Pasley at 150 lbs.The state qualifiers are very excited to compete in Columbia, Mo. For two of them, it will be their last time competing.“Right now there are a lot of emotions going through my head but, I’m not trying to focus on it being my last time competing," said Cook.

Inspirations Dance Academy wins on the KC Music Hall Stage.

Savages clean up at districts; taking on state

The excitement is palpable in the wrestling room for the Savage wrestlers as the team gears up for the 2025 MSHSAA State Championship this week.As previously reported, this team has shown remarkable talent and determination throughout the season, culminating in an impressive performance at the Class 2 District 4 meet this past weekend. Arguably, the hardest district in class 2 boys wrestling, the Savannah Savage wrestling team placed 3rd as a team, despite competing with two open weight classes.This accomplishment speaks volumes about their resilience and determination, as they continually pushed themselves to perform at their best.Out of the talented roster, seven wrestlers have qualified for the state championship, showcasing the heart and skill of this small yet mighty team.Landon Smith, 106lbs, 3rd place; Lawson Francis, 126lbs, 3rd place; Creighton Cook, 132lbs, 2nd place; Deagen Pasley, 150lbs, 3rd place; Kaiden Phillips, 165lbs, 1st place; Braylon Ellis, 190lbs, 1st place; and Cooper Burnsides, 215lbs, 1st place.Three wrestlers emerged as district champions for the Savages; sophomore Kaiden Phillips at 165lbs, junior Braylon Ellis at 190lbs, and senior Cooper Burnsides at 215lbs.Kaiden Phillips showcased his strength and skill by pinning his opponent in the championship match in a mere 1:42.

Savages preparing for districts and feeling good doing it

The Savannah Savage boys wrestlers are gearing up for the much-anticipated Class 2 District 4 tournament starting Friday, Feb. 21.With the event just around the corner, the team is not only focused on sharpening their skills on the mat but also proudly showcasing their brand-new warm-ups, thanks to the unwavering support from the Matside Savage Club and a generous donation from Coder Haggard Lehr Real Estate Group.The members and sponsors that make up the Matside Savage Club, formed to bring support and awareness to the Savannah High School Wrestling program, have been instrumental in supporting the wrestling team.

Stetson rallies late to edge baseball on final day of Puerto Rico Challenge

Stetson rallied from a three-run deficit to edge University of Missouri baseball, 9-7, Sunday afternoon, overcoming another strong offensive showing by the Tigers on the final day of the Puerto Rico Challenge at Yldefonso Solá Morales Stadium.The Tigers, who built a pair of early two-run leads, touched up Stetson pitching for seven runs on 10 hits over the first six innings. Mateo Serna led Mizzou with his second consecutive two-hit effort (2-for-4) performance, Blake Simpson registered a 2-for-5 day at the plate that included the first home run of his MU career.For the second consecutive day in Caguas, the Tigers powered up, this time belting three home runs, taking a 7-4 lead on Simpson's solo shot in the fifth, after Cameron Benson and Pierre Seals went deep on back-to-back at-bats in the third inning to snap a 4-4 deadlock.

Burnsides honored at tournament; Savages wrap up regular season

The Savannah wrestlers have once again proven their resilience and determination by securing second place over the weekend in the Albany Invitational - James Booher Memorial Wrestling Tournament.Despite not entering a full team due to match counts, the team demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship.A standout performance came from senior wrestler Cooper Burnsides, who pinned all four of his opponents with remarkable skill. His outstanding efforts earned him first place in the 215lb weight division.
