North Andrew fighting through adversity

The North Andrew Cardinals boys’ team has been up and down over the last handful of games. The Cardinals, 10-9, are 3-3 over their last six games after a tournament-opening loss to West Platte on Monday night in the North Platte Tournament.“Unfortunately, for the last two weeks we've been battling all sorts of illnesses as a team and really struggled to get into a rhythm as a result,” said North Andrew coach Wade Bryson.

Slaughter scores career high

Sophomore guard Grace Slaughter scored a career-high 31 points including a final basket at the buzzer to lift University of Missouri women's basketball over Mississippi State 78-77 on Monday night at Mizzou Arena.With Missouri (12-10, 1-6 SEC) trailing by one on the final possession, Slaughter drove left to the baseline, pivoted off her right foot and lofted a shot over a Mississippi State (16-5, 3-4 SEC) defender.Slaughter's total came off a 10-of-21 performance from the floor as she led the Tigers in scoring for the 11th time this season. The sophomore also notched six rebounds and a steal on the night.Senior forward Laniah Randle tallied 14 points, four rebounds, four steals, two assists and one block for Missouri.Junior guard Ashton Judd contributed 14 points behind a career-best 7-of-7 performance from the free-throw line.

Lady Cardinals flying high

The North Andrew Cardinals lost five of their first seven games, concluding the stretch with a 29-point loss to Bishop LeBlond. Since that loss, first-year head coach Audrey Elifrits and the Cardinals have won four of five and three-straight ahead of this week’s Stanberry Tournament.“During the LeBlond tournament we were without some upperclassmen, and I was really happy with how well everyone handled it,” said Elifrits.

Savannah Savages rolling under Musser

The Savannah Savages won 18 games 2018, but even that team didn’t start the season the way the 2024 team has under first-year head coach Cy Musser. The Savages are 8-3 and have won five-straight going into the holiday break.“We really like how we are coming together with the foundation of what we want to do offensively and defensively,” said Musser.
